The Great British Bake Off
The Great British Bake Off
You know it's officially the colder seasons when The Great British Bake Off starts and if you're like me, you LOVE it!
For me, Bake Off is such a comfort. Put it on in the evenings and sit down with a nice cuppa (milk and two sugars for me, please)! It's also one of those shows that never disappoints. You know what you're getting, amateur bakers competing to win the show by making beautiful, tasty looking bakes, fresh from the oven.
This years Bake Off is definitely not a disappointing series, not yet anyway. Everyone seems great! They all come across really lovely and almost like one big family and it's always nice to see when they help each other out. Now I'm only on biscuit week, which is week 2, but everyone seems to be doing quite well! Don't get me wrong there's been a few bakes where some contestants have struggled but imagine the pressure they're under. You've got all the cameras, way more than the normal amount of people around you and not to forget but none other than Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith breathing down your neck!
Me and my Mum
I've always been into baking, mainly because I've always baked with my Mum. She's a queen at baking but specializes in cakes! From a very young age I've always helped my Mum mix batters, create decorations and the most important thing, I've always been the taste tester. It's the best job, although in later years of my life I've been known to pile on the pounds from it. Mum and I have always watched Bake Off together, when I was younger she used to finish work on a Tuesday (when it's on TV) at 10pm so we used to record it and watch it Wednesday evening. It's a very fond memory of mine that I will always remember and I hope that I can do the same with my children when the day comes. Although we might have to watch re runs at that point!
Baking Inspiration
If you're a baker or not, you can't not say that watching the Bake Off doesn't make you want to bake something. I've always got an urge to bake after watching it and usually bake whatever they do in the week with my own spin. My favourtite thing to bake is sweet treats! Anything from cookies, to brownies, to cake, even Welsh cakes if I'm in the mood. Don't get me wrong, it's not easy. I've messed up a LOT of bakes in the past and they've come out of the oven looking disastrous, not even worth tasting but like anything, practice makes perfect!
Bread Week
Out of all the weeks they do on the Bake Off, bread week would be the one I would DREAD. Obviously you've got the legendary Paul Hollywood testing and tasting your bread, picking it apart to check the structures and the dough itself. But also, I can't bake bread. Never really have been able to, and never probably will, I think it's because I don't eat a lot of bread so I'm not massively invested in it. The next episode of Bake Off '22 to watch for me is bread week and I have all fingers and toes crossed for the bakers!
My favourite to win this year is Janusz π When the show is over and the winner is crowned, we shall see if I was right!
